Civil defense officials estimated that between 700 and 1,000 people showed up to bag sand at the Fort Wayne Street Department complex in the 1700 block of S. Lafayette and stack bags along flooded areas. City employes were asked to report to work in old clothes March 14 to help with the sandbagging effort.
